    Journalistic Ethics 101

    I will not link to this drivel... because I won't give the site any extra hits...

    Suffice to say, go to...
    http://www.psican.org/thestaroct2009.pdf
    ...for a screen shot.

    Paul McLaughlin, an apparent bastion of journalistic integrity matched only by the intelligence of the average lump of cow-flop, broke the "FIFTY YEAR OLD MYSTERY" of the FULL NAME and circumstances of the haunting that has been reported at The Hockey Hall of Fame (a former Bank of Montreal,) in Toronto.

    Yes, he managed to get out this VITAL and IMPORTANT information that EVERY good citizen needed to know... 'cuz it was news...

    "Dorothy" has a last name... and yes, Dorothy was a real person... and yes, Dorothy met a tragic end at her own hands thanks to a bad life decision.

    WHAT A SCOOP! WHAT A MYSTERY SOLVED! THE CITIZENS OF TORONTO CAN SLEEP WELL TONIGHT!!!

    Yeah, no one knew of this... let's look at the first bit of The Torontoghosts' article I wrote about the place in 1998...

    ============
    "I used to work as a bank teller for the Bank of Montreal (BMO) when this Front St. building was still a functioning branch."
    ============

    Gee, Mr. McLaughlin... did you think I didn't have this nugget of information too?

    ...but why, oh why would I have withheld this VITAL information from public view?

    Let's look at part your article...

    ============
    Dorothy's family does not speak about her death, nor would they comment for this article. They have objected, over the years, to her being seen as an object of fun.
    ============

    ...but obviously, WHY listen to a family's wishes??? I mean, this news was OVER FIFTY YEARS OLD and it was VITAL to ensure that the people knew all!!!! (...and with a RIDICULOUS image with the report to boot... nothing like ADDING to the giggle factor NOT ONLY of this study, folklore in general, but of this family that TOLD you to leave it alone because they don't like being mocked.)

    Hey, dirtbag... did you ever think that NOW this poor woman's family should now be concerned about her memorial and grave site? Did you REALISE that would-be thrill seekers and other stupid types tend to hang out at the graves of well known "ghosts" to get their rocks off? (Some friends may think this is almost hyperbole, but it isn't... it happens...)

    ...and YOU just helped to facilitate this!

    What for, scumball?

    Was it really necessary?

    Do you feel good, breaking your amazing story?

    NOW, PLEASE... I don't want anyone reading this to write to The Star... oh no... please, don't... it will only provide "proof of readership"... and it will get you nowhere...

    HOWEVER...

    I am blessed with good friends who do make news every so often... and to them, I'm BEGGING...

    If Paul McLaughlin contacts you for ANY reason, decline the interview... tell him it's for ethical reasons.

    Let him explain to his editors that his utter and complete lack of thought and feeling has led to him losing interviews and stories.

    This story IS NOT about Dorothy... it's about a scumbag who cared more for a cheesy photo and the ability to have a headline that said "MYSTERY SOLVED" at the price of an entire family's comfort, and the memory of a deceased young woman.

    ...and yes, that scumbag is named Paul McLaughlin.

    PLEASE, ignore him.

    AtrueoriginallJust another pig, the world is full of them. He's not a journalist, just a pig.

    Here's a great picture of him and his friends I found on "Running Cause I Can't Fly". Just more pigs.

    SueAtrueoriginall -> Powerful image! Thank you for sharing it.

    One wonders how he would feel if it was a loved one of his own?

    Thoughtless....

    MatojoWow, that's sad, he really doesn't present her as a person at all. That's a very disrespectful move on his part. :-/

    SueMatojo -> A seemingly absolute lack of decency, and compassion.
