She Took His Breath Away

The following was submitted by one of our readers...

This story actually happened in Belleville. On Pinnacle Street in Belleville as a matter of fact.

My Grandparents owned an older home, approximately 200 years old now. This home had an upstairs apartment in it. My parents had lived in the apartment when they were first married. I was on my own at 16 years old my Grandparents let me to live there alone.

There was always an uncomfortable feeling about the apartment, like someone watching you. It was eerie, and everyone who had been there had sensed it.

No one liked to be left alone there, especially me. I would frequently invite my friends to spend the night, just so I wouldn't have to be alone there. My best female friend was spending the night with me one winter evening. It was so cold that I had dragged my mattresses out to the living room, which is the warmest room in the apartment. My friend Barb was sleeping on the couch and I was sleeping on the mattress beside the couch.

I was sound asleep, flat on my back. I felt it before I saw it. Before opening my eyes I knew that someone was lying on top of me. For a split second, the moment before opening my eyes I thought, "Has my friend lost her marbles?"

Then after a few blinks I saw it. A woman, completely white from head to toe. I could see what looked like white hair floating around her.

I was overwhelmed with fear wanted to scream. I opened my mouth to draw in breath. I felt my lungs empty, like I had fallen on my back and the wind was forced out. I could not scream because she had sucked the breath from me.

Then the weight began to lift, first from my chest then mid-section. I began to gasp for air, starring wide-eyed at her face. Finally she completely raised herself off of me, and then she smiled. Then she was gone.

As soon as fear had my breath and my speech returned I screamed. My lady friend woke up from her place on the sofa and asked me what was wrong. I told her my story, blubbering as I spoke. Barb told me I was dreaming, and to forget about it.

Well, I tried to forget about it.

12 years later I'm in my late twenties and it still bothers me. I still can't sleep on my back.

One night about 2 years ago I was visiting my Mother. We had a few glasses of wine and I decided to tell her my story. I was at the part in my story where I first felt it on me. Then my Mother said, "Oh, she's the one that takes your breath away." At the beginning of this story I mentioned my parents had been tenants in the same apartment before me.

That moment was when I knew for sure that it really happened to me. As it turned out my mother had the same experience three times while living there.

Other scary things happened there too, if you want to hear about it.

Needless to say, we did and the author responded in kind...

I'm forwarding your message to my brother in Kingston. He has a few experiences himself he can tell you about. He didn't see the same female ghost that my Mother and I saw, but he saw another ghost that I didn't see.

We both experienced other scary happenings such as voices coming from the bathroom taps, the feeling of something staring down from the attic, someone sitting on the edge of my bed at night etc.

My brother and I both lived there with our parents until I was 11 and he was 15.

Later when my brother was 18 he lived there with his girlfriend briefly. I lived there alone from ages 16 -18. The female ghost was the only ghost I saw as an adult but as a child I saw 2 on a regular basis. One was a black dog. It would simply dash into our bedroom and it would either disappear into the closet or behind the toy box. The second was something resembling a harlequin. I never got a good look at it. That one was outside on the porch. It would run up to the screen door, look in and run away. It was only about 2 feet tall, at best.

We will keep you posted as to any other occurrences from this author. If you have had a similar experience, please let us know. Your privacy will be protected.

I'm very careful about lying on my back when I sleep because I will admit I'm scared to. In the Summer of 1993 I was sleeping on my back one night when I woke to a dead chill in the room and a pressure on my chest. I opened my eyes to something very disturbing. The face of a hag, wrinkled, white shabby hair and with red glowing eyes was staring at me with the look of pure hatred and of evil.

It was difficult to breathe because this thing had its hands around my throat and my mouth was held open by some type of force coming from this hag. I don't know how because the hands were wrapped around my throat. I was paralyzed, could not move. But my sight worked and I got a very good glimpse of this things body sitting there on my chest. I'll never forget the size and strength of this hag. It was maybe 3 to a little over 3 foot but had a head and body of a man that would be much taller. It was completely nude and had the wrinkled breasts of a very old woman. This things arms and legs had enormous muscles. They were so strong I could see enlarged veins. I wondered how such a small being could be built like that and have such incredible strength.

I couldn't move. I was terrified but couldn't scream. I tried to move but it was too strong. I wanted to shift my body and throw it off but couldn't. I wanted to move my head from its powerful grip but I couldn't. The thing was breathing the life from my lungs. It held my mouth open somehow and its mouth against mine. Each time I exhaled it would inhale. I could see the vapor from the breath of this being. The being would breathe in my oxygen and then it would lean its head back to reveal its ugly wrinkled neck. Each time it would take my air and then follow by leaning back the head and with each time it breathed in I could feel the hands getting warmer that were around my throat. It's as if the warm air from me was running through this things body, raising its temperature and giving it life.

When the being bent its head forward to breathe more air I could feel the hands around my throat turn to ice again. The being was trying to exchange spirits. It was trying to take my life in exchange for its death. It needed me to survive or revive. I was getting weaker and weaker at the end with each breath being robbed of me and knew I was going to die if it took another breath. I couldn't move so the only weapons I could try to use were my thoughts and my faith. My fear soon turned to anger and I was determined to put every ounce of my faith, anger, lips and vocals to work regardless of this demon and its strength. I did and it worked.

I finally yelled with what little breath I had left. Get off of me! Get off of me! Get off of me you evil bitch!! I could feel the grip of its hands loosen from my throat. But it was sitting on my chest still. What did I have left to do now? I thought. My voice was back and I was determined to live. I didn't shout this time. I calmly looked at this being and said...Go away and in the name of Jesus be gone. It worked and it was gone.

Sleep Paralysis? I don't know. But I do know that what I experienced was real, at least to me. It was as real as it gets. There are questions that just don't seem to fit sleep paralysis as an explanation for the "whole experience" but to give these paranormal experiences a more comforting name for the victims to better process and deal is ok. I just know from my experiences that there are greater questions of the unknown than there are answers.

Love & peace

Bet

p.s. I refer to these type beings as "walk ins" and I've been visited by a few.
