Something has had me thinking for the last few days... We were watching a documentary on historic architecture and culture that mention that people would confer with their ancestors because they knew the "ultimate answer" to what awaits us after life... mostly because they've already been through it.
It got me to wondering... is this where we got the idea of communicating with the dead to learn about the future? Where psychics got the idea that spirit guides would somehow show them things that have yet to come?
...except...
The ancients simply wanted to know about life after death... which is "everyone's future"... but hardly guessing savvy business moves, figuring out the winning lottery numbers, or prognosticating about events to come...
When you think about it, the dead do teach us a lot about the past... take for example mummies and the like... but beyond "what happens after death", where did the idea of spirits communicating the best stock pick on the market come from?
Is a case of the ancients doing something (trying to communicate with the dead to find out about death itself and therefore, having a clue as to what awaits us all...) that, like a game of broken telephone, ended up being changed to seers using spirit guides to predict who will win best actress at next year's Oscars?
What do you think?
