This is a vintage report. The incident occurred in the early 1970s.

In searching the internet for a possible report of a UFO incident I came across your site. I have been unable to find any reference but am not good at searching and can't afford to pay for archival newspaper accounts - if any exist. Unfortunately none of the people directly involved are alive today to verify my knowledge but.........here is what I know:

In the early 1970's a 20+year old recent OPP recruit named (name removed for privacy) was sent from his Detachment office in Brechin, ON around 1:00 a.m to pick up coffees at Trombley's Gas Bar in Uptergrove on Hwy 12 . He had just crossed the railway tracks on Hwy12/69 intersection when he saw a glowing light ahead adjacent Hwy 12 in a swampy area. As he got closer he tried to call his detachment office but his communication system would not work - then his cruiser stopped running. When he failed to return or answer his radio a second cruiser was sent out. The second officer (name unknown) came upon the first one and witnessed the same situation - no radio/cruiser stalled and a strange grey/silver "disc" hovering over the swamp area near the first cruiser. The object was glowing bright white, made no sound, had no lights or windows visible and suddenly zoomed straight up and to the north-west over both cruisers. At that point both vehicles were able to be started and the officers returned to their detachment. They tried to explain what they witnessed and eventually - days later - were told by senior OPP officials that it was "likely swamp gas" they saw.

Constable (name removed for privacy) was badly shaken by his experience, left the OPP shortly after and committed suicide . His father was also an OPP officer. My husband (now deceased) and I were friends of the constable's family and believe this was a very real happening and a very real account of the circumstances told to us by both son and father shortly after it took place.
