Alternative weddings are becoming all the rage these days, and it is nice to see people breaking away from the traditional, and really personalizing their special day.

You can even plan a spooky wedding, from the venue, and gown, right down to the bridal lingerie. How cool is that!

Someone once asked me if I would consider getting married in a haunted house. Despite my hobby I would have to say any haunting would be a secondary consideration, but not so for one Ohio area couple who purposefully got married at a local haunted house called the 7 Floors of Hell last October. Apparently the groom arrived in a coffin, and guests wore zombie, and witch costumes.

An interesting idea for paranormal enthusiast that are planning a wedding!

"I was drinking coffee and looking out the window when I noticed above and between two large trees a translucent sphere hovering. It was still and the left end of the sphere was misshapen. To explain the object looked as if it was a clear no coloured bag that was in the shape of a sphere. I would say that the object was in the direction of either Port Dalhousie in St. Catharines,Ontario, Canada or Martindale Pond. The object stayed until the sphere was changed to sphere shape, and then disappeared."

I snagged this pic of an abandoned house last Fall. I like the look of creepy older buildings, but not because I believe they are good candidates for a haunting. In fact most of our really good reports come from newer condo hotel types of structures.

Sometimes this leads me to believe that more often than not people are haunted, and not buildings. Just something to think about

Bancroft ON February 11th 2007 Approx 2:30am

"I was sleeping, it was about 2:30 in the morning and I was awoken by this big humming noise. I woke up with my friend and she witnessed the same thing it looked white and it looked like a ball of energy. It was hovering at the top of a tree across the street from us. It was very big we stood there, shocked and terrified neither of us made a noise. When I came home the next morning ( me and my friend didnt tell anyone about what we have witnessed ) my older brother (name withheld by PSICAN) asked me if I'd seen anything weird the night before and I said no but he described the exact same thing I seen the night before."

I am constantly bombarded with emails on weight loss schemes, and products claiming to be the best diet pills, and I have to wonder do these really work? My guess is that they work for some people, and perhaps not for others, otherwise North America would be a far more healthier place.

As with anything let the buyer beware, and find out everything you can about a product, especially when it comes to your health.

"I sighted 3 lights flying in a triangular formation moving across the sky directly above me and heading north in Cambridge Ontario, February 7th, 2007 at approximately 6:45 am in the morning.

One of the "lights" then zoomed across to join another and then back to its original position in the sky. They continued north at a speed faster than any jet and they then speed not off into the horizon but straight up and out into the sky to the northern hemisphere.......not sure if I was seeing things."

I was recently reading on another paranormal website's forum about someone who was suffering with some sort of chemical dependency. What was really frustrating for someone such as myself was that another user suggested a specific telephone psychic.

Personally I have no real problem with advice being sought from telephone psychics, astrologers, etc provided they list that they are for entertainment only as a caveat, and one can only hope that they in turn would advice someone like the message board user listed above to seek addiction treatment or proper medical intervention as opposed to a psychical solution.

Scientists are poised to re-open the debate on the actual dating of the Shroud of Turin according to MSNBC.

Here is a snippet from the article:

Twenty years after radiocarbon dating supposedly proved once and for all that the Shroud of Turin was a medieval hoax, scientists are revisiting their research to see if the tests were erroneous and the shroud really dates back to the time of Christ.

“The result of the first test done in 1988 was almost an embarrassment at some point,” Barrie Schwortz, the photographer who documented the original Shroud of Turin Project, told TODAY’s Matt Lauer in a Good Friday interview in New York. “Now that we’re 20 years later, the technology certainly has improved.”

The long strip of tightly woven linen that bears the ghostly image of a bearded man who had apparently been crucified has been venerated since the Middle Ages as the burial shroud of Jesus. And written references to the existence of such a cloth date back to the first century.

Hoax or not I still think this is a fascinating and enduring story based around a very cool artefact.

I was checking out the above clip earlier this morning, and thought it was too funny! Have a look for yourself by clicking on the video. The gist of the video is about a guy who has this amazing game face despite all sorts of crazy situations. In other words this fellow has a dead pan face throughout experiences that would normally trigger some extreme emotional reply. However when the same fellow comes across an intense game of poker....well again just click on the video clip above, and you'll see what I mean.

Since the availability to the average consumer of reasonably priced power tools such as festool many people have been taking on house renovation projects on their own. The question we are often asked in regards is "do renovations stir up ghostly activity?" Many people feel so, and this historic (circa 1817) house may be yet another case of this.

According to John Robert Colombo's Mysteries of Ontario, during the 1989 renovations, workmen claimed they heard "cries" over their own power tools and experienced one of the most 'common' type of reported poltergeist behaviour with things going "missing" only to turn up in strange and weird spots later.

One of my favourite places in the province, and quite a spooky story!

"This happened in Belleville Ontario. On Pinnacle Street in Belleville as a matter of fact.

My Grandparents owned an older home, approximately 200 years old now. This home had an upstairs apartment in it. My parents had lived in the apartment when they were first married. I was on my own at 16 years old and my Grandparents let me to live there alone.

There was always an uncomfortable feeling about the apartment, like someone watching you. It was eerie, and everyone who had been there had sensed it.

No one liked to be left alone there, especially me. I would frequently invite my friends to spend the night, just so I wouldn't have to be alone there. My best female friend was spending the night with me one winter evening. It was so cold that I had dragged my mattress topper out to the living room, which is the warmest room in the apartment. My friend Barb was sleeping on the couch and I was sleeping on the mattress beside the couch.

I was sound asleep, flat on my back. I felt it before I saw it. Before opening my eyes I knew that someone was lying on top of me. For a split second, the moment before opening my eyes I thought, "Has my friend lost her marbles?"

Then after a few blinks I saw it. A woman, completely white from head to toe. I could see what looked like white hair floating around her.

I was overwhelmed with fear wanted to scream. I opened my mouth to draw in breath. I felt my lungs empty, like I had fallen on my back and the wind was forced out. I could not scream because she had sucked the breath from me.

Then the weight began to lift, first from my chest then mid-section. I began to gasp for air, starring wide-eyed at her face. Finally she completely raised herself off of me, and then she smiled. Then she was gone.

As soon as fear had my breath and my speech returned I screamed. My lady friend woke up from her place on the sofa and asked me what was wrong. I told her my story, blubbering as I spoke. Barb told me I was dreaming, and to forget about it.

Well, I tried to forget about it.

12 years later I'm in my late twenties and it still bothers me. I still can't sleep on my back.

One night about 2 years ago I was visiting my Mother. We had a few glasses of wine and I decided to tell her my story. I was at the part in my story where I first felt it on me. Then my Mother said, "Oh, she's the one that takes your breath away." At the beginning of this story I mentioned my parents had been tenants in the same apartment before me.

That moment was when I knew for sure that it really happened to me. As it turned out my mother had the same experience three times while living there."

"At approximately 9:15 PM, I never actually checked my Technomarine watch, on a crowded roof-top patio/bar in Toronto Ontario I noticed an object in the sky. The sky was perfectly clear, still blue as the sun was setting, it was warm and there was little if any breeze. Initially I was looking at a construction crane and saw a black object. I immediately thought it was nothing more than a black bag (garbage bag) blowing in the wind. I kept looking at it and realised it was very high up, it was not windy and the object was moving at a very steady pace in a straight direction. I immediately got the attention of the person I was with, they too had been watching, but had said nothing, we had both been fixed on it, trying to figure it out. I got the attention of a few other people, but for the most part no one took notice as it was a loud, busy party at a bar. A few people and I continued to watch the object move at a good pace (not too fast, but very steady and smooth). The object had no lights and had no visible wings. The shape is very difficult to describe, I hesitate to describe it as a "saucer" because it was not completely flat, nor completely round. We continued to watch it until we lost sight of it as it passed behind a tall office building. The total time of the sighting seemed like a long time, but could have only been a couple of minutes at the most. The object was moving from north to south (heading towards Lake Ontario) Whether the object made any noise is unknown as there was music and lots of noise on the patio, but I do not recall hearing anything out of the ordinary when I saw the object. Typically when planes and helicopters fly over the city you can hear them, they are pretty loud as the noise bounces between buildings. As far as the size of the object, it is really hard for me to say because I did not know how far I was from it, there was nothing for me to get reference from. I also could not tell how high up the object was because I could not get a view of the ground and the object at the same time. Again, this took place while the sky was still light in the middle of the city of Toronto! We could not have been the only people to see it, could we?!"

The nice thing about being a privately owned blog is we can do this.

The miracle known as teh interwebs (the series of tubes you're currently browsing this through) has it's issues... and one of the most troubling of these issues for webmasters and the like is server downtime.

This blog and all our sites and stuff are run through our own servers in a sense... that is to say, not through something like Blogpsot or Wordpress, but our own server... and as such, we have to do much of the maintenance ourselves... or beg our parent company to get their folks to fix things... anyway, on my personal blog's "Thursday Thirteen" this week, I did mention "server downtime" which is something that's impossible to avoid.

That said, the idea of cobbling together some sort of in-house solution out of used cisco routers and some nice server machines appeals on many levels and might actually allow for greater control of how long downtime lasts... but in essence, that may or may not be a solution.

That said, forgive us our downtimes... as they will be hopefully brief... and yes, we are looking into them as they happen.

PRINCE.EDWARD.ISLAND (CBC) - A UFO research group in Manitoba has been unable to identify a mysterious sighting in the sky over P.E.I. on Boxing Day.

The long, smoky spiral was videotaped by Tony and Marie Quigley of North Tryon. Researchers in Manitoba used digital software to enlarge the images, and were able to rule out meteors, satellites and airplanes, but beyond that they just don't know.

One of our readers sent in this report from the Old Mill Subway Station that also could go as a possible update into our report on The Lady in Red in Lower Bay Subway Station...

I just finished reading about the haunts at the Old Mill / Humber River area and wanted to send you a gentleman's story. He was working in the Old Mill Subway Station in the early morning hours after the trains had stopped running. He and his coworker, were on track level several hundred feet from the station. They had just finished a repair and the coworker decided he would walk up the tracks to collect the warning work lights. The flashing yellow lights are set 500 hundred feet apart to warn Work Car Drivers that men are on the tracks performing maintenance, etc.

The gentleman watched him walk up the tunnel and then decided to make himself useful by packing up their tools and equipment. After several minutes of packing up, the gentleman stood up, stretched and then waited for his co-worker to return. The tracks at this point in the subway system are split with large fiberglass columns between the eastbound and westbound sides.

As he stood there waiting, someone or something directly behind him whispered in the softest voice "hello" in his ear. He said it was almost as if they had sighed and spoke at the same time.

He turned around quickly thinking it was his co-worker who had somehow snuck past him on other tracks and come up behind him, but no one was there.

When he looked down the tracks there was the fellow heading toward him carrying the flashing warning light. Yelling down to the fellow collecting the lamps to hurry, he gathered up their tools and made a bee-line for the lights of Old Mill Station.

When the co-worker finally caught up with him, the gentleman told him what had just happened. They headed up the stairs to ground level and out to their truck.

On the way back to their main station, the co-worker explained to the other fellow that others had similar experiences in that tunnel and there was a story of a woman and child roaming the tracks.

To this day he tells me he can still hear 'her' voice whispering hello.

The author of the above also wrote to us to mention the reports of the Lady in Red and mention, if nothing else, a possible connection between some ghosts and the TTC Subway.

When I read that this conference had been shut down I thought to myself, another good example of ghost hunting tards ruining it for those who take ghost research and investigation seriously. Do you blame historic sites for shutting out such activities? Some people have obviously forgotten that the subject is based on deceased human beings, and disrespect, and mock it, which naturally leads to something like this. Read on:

The ghost-hunting summit that was expected to attract more than 500 paranormal investigators to Gettysburg in June has been canceled.

The Gettysburg National Military Park's policy against organized paranormal investigations on the battlefield is the main reason for the cancellation of the G4 Summit, organizer Kerry Eble-Keller said.

"It was just not what it could be," Eble-Keller said Tuesday.

Had things gone as planned, it would have been the first year for the event. As many as 540 people were registered to attend, he said.

Efforts to find homes and businesses in the area open to paranormal investigation were met with limited success, and without the battlefield as an option, "we realized we were just going to disappoint a lot of people," Eble-Keller said.

I feel bad for the event organisers, sounds like it would have been fun.

This is a short sampling of some of the strange things that were experienced in the past by one of our readers. Please note that Lake Simcoe has been the scene of reported "alien" abductions in the past.

"In 1982 I woke to find three non-human entities in the bedroom with me. I felt a mild electrical shock moving from my feet up to my head. I remember nothing after it reached my head. In 1987 while at our trailer up north we had a missing time experience of over two hours. My wife saw a high altitude UFO at the same time.

In 1995 at a cottage on the Ottawa River two of us saw a close-up UFO. It was an orange ball of light that hovered over our heads for a couple of minutes before taking off.

We spend several weekends per year at some friend's place up north. This is near Lake Simcoe, which is a very spooky area. This particular house has a resident ghost. It's in the form of a shadow that wanders through the place at will. I was the first to see it in 1998, but after that it made regular appearances for the residents. I think there is quite a lot of activity happening in the area because I have had many UFO related dreams about this place. These include: neon multi-coloured things that looked like butterflies or birds flying through the house, mysterious helicopters hovering over us in the back yard, and around the patio furniture little people running through."

Haunted hotels Las Vegas is really the domain of our old, and dear friend Janice Oberding who wrote the book entitled Haunted Nevada, however after watching an old gangster film I thought I would look up the haunting of the Flamingo.

"Back in the heyday of the mafia, famous gangsters literally flocked to Las Vegas. Benjamin "Bugsy" Siegel, in particular, saw the potential of this gambling mecca, and persuaded his mafia bosses to invest in the most luxurious hotel and casino the area had ever seen. The cost to build The Flamingo ended up being more than three times the original estimate, and despite a glamorous grand opening, the casino was a flop.

The Flamingo started to turn a nice profit just a few months later, but the Crime Syndicate never forgave Bugsy for embezzling its money to build it. While relaxing in his Beverly Hills home on the evening of June 20, 1947, Bugsy was shot once in the head and four times in the body.

Though much of the original Flamingo he helped to build is no longer in existence, Bugsy's ghost is said to remain, haunting the Presidential Suite, where he resided while in the city. Sightings have also been reported by the pool, in the wedding chapel, and around the Bugsy Monument in The Flamingo’s rose garden. Take a midnight stroll around The Flamingo if you dare, but remember, if you happen to encounter this ghostly gangster, be sure to address him as “Mr. Siegel.”
