Wordless Wednesday - Specter of Newby Church

"This photograph was taken in 1963 by Reverend K. F. Lord at Newby Church in North Yorkshire, England. It has been a controversial photo because it is just too good. The shrouded face and the way it is looking directly into the camera makes it look like it was posed – a clever double exposure. Yet supposedly the photo has been scrutinized by photo experts who say the image is not the result of a double exposure.

The Reverend Lord has said of the photo that nothing was visible to the naked eye when he took the snapshot of his altar. Yet when the film was developed, standing there was this strange cowled figure.

The Newby Church was built in 1870 and, as far as anyone knows, did not have a history of ghosts, hauntings or other peculiar phenomena. Those why have carefully analysed the proportions of the objects in the photo calculated that the specter is about nine feet tall!"

Fascinating pic. My mum has one her parish priest gave her - it shows a ghostly, nun-like figure kneeling and genuflecting. Not sure where it was taken, though - somewhere in Italy, I think. Great blog - I've just started a paranormal blog, called Strange Days - but yours is going to be a tough act to follow!

As far as I know, spirits on film so far show up as light flares, mist or color blobs. But those who can see spirits likely see something much closer to this photograph. It's a creepy photo, whichever way it goes. Happy WW!

I've long loved this photo but have never once been convinced by it. I think it's a fake. It has too much of the cartoon comic feel to the look of the alleged spirit.

Btw, as you're out for this year as regards entering the Spicy Cauldron Awards, why not get MATTHEW to enter this time round? He left you to give it a go last year, the least he can do is step in now you're out... *mischievous grin* x
