Chris de Burgh Faith Healer?

In an odd bit of synchronicity as I was surfing about the net trying to take my mind off this nasty head cold that I am trying to shake I came across this news item re: Chris de Burgh being a faith healer.

Now this was news to me! And I'm going to try to find some more info on it. In the mean time I would love to hear your thoughts on faith healers in general. Would you seek one out? Do you think there might be something to it? Or are all faith healers deluded or charlatans in your opinion?

Leave us a comment ... :)

I think it depends as much on the patient as it does the healer, but then again, some of them are frauds playing on this vulnerability people have.

It's called faith healing for a reason ;)

I'm far too much of a cynic to try it. I'm open to the concept that it would work, but when faced with an actual healer, I wouldn't buy it.

I think there's actually something to it. That said, I think 99.999% of people practicing it have taken the idea of "faith healing" to be some sort of religious experience, and thus, are just working off of many people's absolute belief in their religion.

So, if I don't think there's anything to this religious angle, what do I think there could be to it? There's an interesting theory out there about how man used to be more in touch with nature and the world around him, and used to therefore be able to manipulate it better, even with just the power of his mind. While I'm not 100% sold on this idea, I think that's probably where the idea of "faith healing" came from, and it was then picked up by charlatans who called it "the power of god", etc.

My grandfather was what you could call a "faith healer". He was a Christian and believed god responded to his prayers for other people. I haven't witnessed this personally, but he took it very seriously. I'm not a religious person, but I can see that his company was a source of comfort for many people. His success rate was remarkably high, so I'm told.

My mum is what some call a faith healer but she prefers spiritual healer and belongs to the UK National Federation of Spiritual Healers which works with the NHS. She would say it's a combination of the focus of the healer and the determination of the patient to get something out of it.

People talk of fakes or genuine healers but ultimately spiritual healing is not remotely intrusive and providing money doesn't exchange hands, I don't see reason to spend time thinking much on it. I am, however, concerned whenever I see all those psychic ads for paid services. That stuff really gets me mad. x
