Freaky Friday - Something About Sumach

Each Friday we will have a look at the stories and experiences that have been related to us over the years that are amongst our personal favourites. These will include Crypto, Ghosts, Hauntings, UFO's, and other strange events that may be considered Fortean, from in around the Toronto, Canada area .... and since they are from our own personal files will likely not be found elsewhere on the web .... enjoy!

Private Residence - Sumach St, Toronto, Ontario

"My mother lived on Sumach St. in Cabbagetown about 40 years ago.

There were many strange happenings in the home, such as the front door opening on its own in the winter time, and a man was seen standing in the hallway, and then he had seemed to of vanished. My grandmother looked out the front door to see if she could see him there and she could not. She was also disturbed that there were not any footprints in the deep snow that the man would have made going up to the door.

Another time, my Mom and her siblings were running in a circle through their living and dining room doorways when my Mom ran through what she said was the apparition of a man standing in the doorway.

My mother also remembers that when they first moved into the house that they always heard a baby crying in the back room located off of the kitchen.

Later, my grandfather removed that room, making the kitchen larger and the baby was not heard again. I would be interested to hear if anyone else experienced strange happenings in this house."

Our thanks to our reader for the above report. Over the past ten years we have received many reports from Sumach street. In fact when pressed once about which location in the city was considered the most haunted, we actually determined that of all the neighbourhoods in Toronto or any one particular street for that matter, we have received the most reports by far from this wonderfully historic location. There is definitely something ghostly about Sumach street....

Do you have a real life ghost story, an encounter with a UFO, or other paranormal experience/s you'd like to share? If so, we'd love to hear from you! Post your own experiences in our comments section or send us an email. Please post only true life experiences ... we love good fiction, but there are other fantastic blogs out there to post fictional accounts to.

The idea that some areas contain multiple properties with hot spots of paranormal activity is of interest to our team.

I can give an examples from Leicester, one would be the area around the Guildhall Leicester, with multiple properties reputed to be Haunted with a stones throw of each other. These are Wygston's House, The Guildhall, and The Globe Inn.

The Guildhall Liecester is well known, recently we released a video of something strange recorded on the security camera.

Very interesting, David and Sue. I think it's really intriguing that certain areas can be pinpointed as especially haunted!

I actually posted a ghost story (one of many I have in my internal memoirs) online a few years back. My friend Jackie, who has commented here with a link to her aideni blog, can sort of back up this story with an experience of her own.

The link: http://www.castleofspirits.com/stories04/burning.html

What made this one stick out was the numerous experiences we had here the first year of residency, but now that we've been here five years, I can honestly say the activity has died down.

hrm.. re-reading my posted story, I found a discrepancy in my own words. Let me clarify. When I said "a while longer" I can only tell you it felt no longer than a minute, but I was not watching the clock or anything. My husband came in a few minutes later. All he stayed out there to finish was to get the fire under control, and that was that.

the house where my mom grew up had many paranormal activities while she was there, and even after I was born and on into the next owners. They have a hard time selling the house now, since it's reputation has been growing around town with each owner. The activity on the stairway was the one that bothered most owners. It was very unfriendly. I remember being terrified of the stairway and wouldn't go up or down unless I had someone with me.

Sue -> Thank you for the link!

Jackie -> I wonder what it is with stairways, so many haunts tend to occur on them. I once had a nasty experience involving one myself.
