Betting On Proof Of The Afterlife

I found the following news item of while surfing around the net this past weekend. Here is a snippet:

A paranormal investigator claimed today he is in line to win £1 million after betting he could prove the existence of an afterlife.

Ross Hemsworth, 49, from Glastonbury, has placed a £100 bet with odds of 10,000/1, that he will provide evidence of an afterworld beyond reasonable doubt.

If the self titled "scientific investigator of anomalous phenomena" is proved correct not only will he bag the money but will also become one of the most famous men in modern history.

Naturally this caught my attention, and I intend to keep an eye on it for further developments. The question of course is what does he think he has got???? Should be interesting no matter how it turns out.

Could it be something related to or inspired by the Scole Experiment and the work that has quietly followed?

Chris -> This claim is very specific to the afterlife. I think that the Scole experiments only proved that weird stuff happens, not it's actual cause.

It will certainly be interesting to see if Ross Hemsworth produces such evidence!

Another blog, Sailing to Byzantium, notes that Mr. Hemsworth has a book being released soon, and suggests that this is a publicity stunt. Such a thought is not without logic. Mr. Hemsworth's MySpace bio states: "My background is as a TV Producer and Director, before which I was a Manager of pop bands and sports personalities. I have a long background in marketing, celebrity PR and sales."

We shall see!

I agree with Chris. I know alot of people want to be the one who finds the definite answer to the plethora of questions on this subject, but I don't think any respectable scientist would place a bet in order to provide the proof they found.

Just another person looking for fame and fortune.

Though I think it most likely that David is right, wouldn't it be intriguing if he won £1 million? :-P
