Wordless Wednesday - Alien Orbs

The above photo was sent to us by my dear friend Dr Charles Lietzau. It was most fittingly taken at a UFO conference a few years back. The orb effect was created by tossing some salt, and pepper in the air, and snapping the shot. It's a good illustration of how airborne particles such as dust will appear when caught in a camera's flash.

Happy Wordless Wednesday, and thank you for stopping by!

A lot of UFO sightings are misidentifications. Nice photo. It shows how easy it is to make genuine mistakes

wow, I didn't know that about the salt and pepper--interesting. I'm going to try it just to see. Great shot.

Ah, now I want to toss salt in the air and set the flash to ON. That is really cool.

Funny pic, but interesting about how it can be created.

Heh, interesting effect... and here I was going to set a frisbee on fire and snap a pic to fake a UFO sighting. I guess you guys would see right through that, huh?

Dave -> Hehehe ... the best fake I've ever seen was done sometime in the 60's. Two guys took a disc shaped object and attached it to a fishing rod. They then dangled it outside their car window, and snapped pics as they drove on. these were too funny!!! .. :)

I'm glad you explained about tossing the salt and pepper into the air and then taking the shot. I was going...what are those spots. Great shot and happy WW. :)

The only problem is, they don't look like the orbs I've captured on camera on very rare occasions at all. Not even a little. They are too precise, too sharp, too dense in colour. And I've only ever snapped orbs around sacred sites or when someone close to me, human or animal, has died days or a week before. Everyday photos have never contained them, not the ones I've taken.

So. Sure, orbs can be easily misidentified by the gullible. But I don't think salt and pepper make a convincing case to wipe out all consideration of orbs as 'real' phenomena. x

Andy -> No they cannot rule out all, but with experimentation we can easily replicate most. I am still waiting for a smoking gun, one that would be partial obscured by a real object in the foreground. I need an example that I can prove is out of range of the cameras flash, and out of 1000's still not a single one. That does not mean all are bogus, but it does mean airborne particles cannot be ruled out either, which then leaves it up to the beliefs of the viewer or photographer only. Also I am more interested in those seen with the naked eye, the vast majority are only discovered after development or downloading. That in itself is telling in my opinion.
