Sunday Smackdown - Detecting Ghosts With Your Cell Phone?
Sometimes these smacks are such a slam dunk we do not even have to say a word. I read the following, and just had to shake my head. Is it any wonder why "ghost hunters" are looked upon by so many with derision????

In what may be the single greatest mobile application of all time, the Discovery Channel is offering downloads of a ghost detection program for compatible cell phones. The download is free, as long as you sign up for a subscription to its Most Haunted website.
As any self-respecting ghost buster knows, paranormal investigators say that fluctuations in Electro Magnetic Fields (E.M.F.) are the indicators for paranormal activity. Apparently, this application works by measuring variations in data transmission times to and from your mobile phone, which it takes from fluctuations in the local electromagnetic field.
It's at this point in the post that we're supposed to make a joke about 'Ghostbusters' and the phrase, "Who you gonna call?" -- but we'll spare you.

Don't mistake me here. It is definitely not the author of the above that I have a problem with. What I do have a problem with is Discovery Channel for buying into this nonsense, and further perpetuating the silliness that has flooded actual life after-death research, and the real scientific approach to hauntings with yet more absurdity.
Ghostbusters indeed ... ;)

They already admitted that Most Haunted is only an entertainment type of show. So, I'm not surprised this is associated with them. It's also obvious that this is a publicity ploy.I agree with you. It's a shame that the Discovery Channel is supporting it.
That story made me cringe. Literally. 
Another useless program for cell phones? I am shocked.Do people actually use these things for talking to people? Scratch that, those people walking down the street speaking obnoxiously loud so everyone can hear their conversation in an attemp to seem important tell me they do.
That is possibly the most ridiculous thing I have heard in some time. Shame on Discovery for lowering themselves to this level.
I actually quite enjoyed the article, I admit the Ghostbusters line had me giggling.I'm not really all that surprised though...pretty much every company out there is about profits. Why should the Discovery channel be any different?
On that note have you seen the show Ghost Hunters on Sci-Fi? I'd be interested in hearing your thoughts on it.

Yes, the all mighty dollar has kicked the snot out of credibility with most media. If they don't have any belief in the paranormal, why wouldn't they treat it like a sideshow. I'm so glad we have the ability to talk with one another this way. Can you imagine a time in the future when more people will visit this web page or similar, than watch Most Haunted or Ghost Hunters.I hope!
