Sunday Smackdown....Male Chauvinism Within Cryptozoology?

Famed Cryptozoologist Loren Coleman was recently interviewed on Coast to Coast AM with George Noory, and one of the topics that was brought up is one that we've been tossing around on our paranormal message forums lately....women in Cryptozoology. Something that appears at least on the surface to be too far, and too few between...and I thought there was an "old boys" network in UFOlogy .. huh!

Mr Coleman had made an interesting point about women in the field though. Could Bigfoot or a Sasquatch find a woman less threatening or more attractive in the field? Would this give her an advantage in the study? You can read more on Loren Coleman's thoughts on this subject here.

Frankly, our own Director of Cryptozoology, Robin Bellamy who is a woman found this a bit chauvinistic, and so did I. More likely women in the field would do well because of their SKILLS and METHOD than their hormones!

However, they're talking about women in the field and that's a good thing. Right! Right?

Hmm cryptozoology... does that include the study of animals being where they aren't supposed to be? Such as ABC's (Alien big Cats) in the UK (alien in the sense that they aren't naturally indigenous... not that they come from outer space).

Obviously, cryptozoology isn't the only professional field where guys act like that, but they are acknowledging the opposite sex. I think it's a start..not necessarily in the right direction, but a start nonetheless.

I would make a comment about enjoying women in fields, but you'd probably hit me ;)

Mr Coleman isn't very happy about this article but aparantly found it more appropriate to blow it out of proportion on his blog than to post his thoughts here. So I offer it to Sue's readers.

Robin -> I'm not surprised. It is an opinion based on his statement, and I'm entitled to mine just as much as he is his. If he thinks I was in error, and he is not in the least bit chauvinistic then he has the right to bring that up on his blog. I did provide the link to his own article so that people can make up their own mind .. :)

Note he edited his blog to remove the statement about being more attractive.

Maybe there really IS an old boys network.

Robin -> I always do a screen shot of everything I comment on so openly because people do tend to edit. It's no biggie, and I do think it was over blown. Over all I respect his work, and will address this next Sunday.
