    Wordless Wednesday - Owls

Owls often factor into the folklore of many different cultures. They are also reported and associated in some cases of alien abduction. Sceptical organizations have used owls to try to explain away strange creature sightings such as Mothman. Personally, I find them to be beautiful, and intriguing!

LindaOwls have always made me a little bit nervous - I think it's because of the way that they can turn their heads all the way around.

elasticwaistbandladyOwls? Mothman? Y'all are my kind of peeps!

Remember that Michael Martin Murphy song, "Wildfire?" Well, I told my kids that when he says that there's been a hoot owl outside his window for six nights in a row, that it's meant to foreshadow death in accordance with Native American legends. Not too long ago, we had a hoot owl take up residence in the tree outside their bedroom window. For a week, they were certain that death was coming for them! Poor things.

    Happy WW!

DaveI simply love owls. When I was growing up, there was an abandoned barn up on a hill near our house where a big white barn owl roosted. It would always come winging silently out a little after sunset. I had a lot of fun scaring new friends with the 'haunted barn' ;)

Chris (remoteplanet)They are very cool indeed. Where I lived in British Columbia, Canada for several years, the owl was quite a powerful symbol. I remember finding an owl feather in the wetlands and was pretty excited... but always wondered what magic might result from having such a beautiful and powerful object in my possession.
