Coming to a theatre near you "the Messengers" ........... my non-psychic prediction, read informed guess is that with the debut of this spooky film our submissions from people claiming "my child sees dead people" ala The Sixth Sense are going to go way up .... and oddly, when we do try to comfort some of these parents and reassure them that their children are in all probability not receiving demonic messages from beyond .... get snarked at as if they really do wish their children were being traumatised thusly ....oy vey!
Matthew and I once knew two women who fought over whose child was more psychic, both children at the time were around three years of age!
People are strange .... far stranger than anything paranormal!

That sadly is a case of parents wanting to hijack and *make the most* of their children financially. Will look out for the film.
Haha, I love this post! Three year old psychics, huh? Well, I do think that children can certainly be psychic - but parents fighting over it is pretty darned silly. Sounds very much like a skit out of a British comedy TV show!I do think that your non-psychic guess is very informed. You've both been at this for 10 years now, and know how movies affect the public and media.
I may be eating my words on this yet... (Sue and Matt already know my theory). I think that the poor reviews everyday moviegoers are giving this film on Internet Movie Database (www.imdb.com) - 4.8 out of 10 from 679 people who have seen the film so far - is a good indication that this movie will have a minimal impact. The popularity of the movie in its opening week attests to a public thirst for movies that delve into the unknown - or for scary movies. But I suspect the negative reviews from moviegoers (esp. in regards to a thin plot, lack of originality) will minimize people trying to legitimize what's in the film as their "reality." (Besides, isn't it usually the press that tries to make the connection between something happening in reality with popular fiction?) The content of this movie has been seen before, and I think it's the movies that do something different and fresh (e.g. The Sixth Sense, The Exorcist, Rosemary's Baby) that are bound to create more of a "public frenzy."
As I said, I'm prepared to eat my words on this one! ;-) I'm helping Sue and Matt out with PSICAN's requests from the media - so the media may yet be inundating us with "this woman says her kids see dead people" stories.
So, has anyone out there seen the movie yet? Maybe it's better than the reviews say?

Don't know about being psychic..but my oldest son and I could send silent messages to each other..I could sit in the living room, and think over and over..'David..go take out the trash'..and within 10 minutes he would walk in and say..'did you want me to take out the trash?.'did that all the time..
