Occasionally whilst surfing the blogoshere I come across Atheist blogs that state "science has proven God does not exist" usually followed by something like, "only idiots, and non-scientists believe in an afterlife," yada yada yada......
Firstly, my impression is that the writer of such blog entries does not understand the word science nor the scientific method, which is based on observation and experimentation. Frankly (and I hate to break this to some) science has no interest in proving or disproving the existence of a God. Your disbelief is cool, but lets face it, that is your belief ... nothing more.....
I find these people are more often greater and more rabid preachers of conversion to their own lack of beliefs than those who are part of some organized religion! Sometimes to the point of disturbing!
There is no such thing as Science Vs. Religion (at least not in more than 100 + years). And they can and do co-exist. I personally know several professional scientists that follow a religious path. They know the difference between scientific methodology and spiritual or philosophical beliefs. Apparently some Atheists do not.
Oh in case, and if you are wondering where I am coming from, I was raised an Atheist, and my father was a professional scientist. However, my father never felt the need to bash anyone because he did not feel his own beliefs or lack of were anymore important or valid than anybody else's.
I am an Agnostic and proud sceptic. Unlike pseudo sceptics I doubt, I question, I do not feel the need to bash people, nor invoke the word science or flat out deny in order to bolster my own philosophies or politics .....
Speaking of which, an interesting investigation of the former CSICOP now CSI......
Skeptical Investigators ask: "Has CSICOP Lost the 30 Years' War?"
For 30 years CSICOP (Committee for the Scientific Investigation of Claims of the Paranormal) has been the principal agency of dogmatic skepticism opposed to the development of Pioneering Science.
The article looks at positive skeptical investigations and an open-minded spirit. And secondly...people who call themselves skeptics, many of whom are not skeptics at all, but dogmatists seeking to defend an ideology or world view.
