Ghostly Thirteen

Based on the concept of the Blogoshere's Thursday Thirteen .. Andrea of Ghost Stories has begun something very similar that is to be paranormal related only. And since we are a Paranormal Blog we thought it would be fun to participate!

The following are Matthew and Sue's Top 13 picks for places most reportedly haunted or where a haunting is most likely to occur:

1. Hospitals
2. Theatres
3. Private Homes
4. Office Buildings
5. Castles and Manor Homes
6. Prisons
7. Court Rooms
8. Inns & Hotels
9. Pubs & Taverns
10. Battlefields
11. Bridges
12. Forts
13. Churches

The above is based on our own statistics and those of many other research organizations. The list lends support to the opinion that ghosts haunt where humans lived, worked, and played and not where their physical remains are located.

Thank you to Ghost stories for a terrific idea .. :)

when i was about 15 years old and lived at kelly afb in san antonio, texas there was an old old 3 story house abandoned out in the middle of this field..there was this eerie blue light coming from one upstairs window..all of us malitary kids just knew it was haunted but were to afraid to go see..well, finally my soon to be first husband, me his sister and boyfriend went to see the haunted house..by the time we got there we had worked ourselves into a frenzy..so we get inside and we have a flash light and we are scaring each other..finally make it up the stairs and it is getting creepier and creepier and we are so scared by this time is we had touched each other we would have ran screaming out of the building..we finally get to the room and the eerie blue light is shinning under the door....we stand there shaking like leaves..just terrified..finally one of us throws the door open and there it was................
the biggest damn lone star beer neon sign you have ever seen...

Interesting list. Bearing in mind I am in the UK - I think the list might be a little different over here.

I might have to go a hunting to see what the statistics are like in the UK and see if they back me up now. Looks like these people are setting up a data base of sightings in the UK.

I have a supplementary question.

What characteristics enable a person to see/feel a ghost/presence?

I am fascinated by those that can see and feel ghosts. I do not have that ability although I acknowledge that they exist.

And of course presumably the more people that have this ability the more will be reported ?

Hi MsDemmie,

You are in the mecca of this sort of thing. So yes, the listing would be a bit different, but would still point towards locations rich in "living" good, bad, traumatic and joyous ... certainly homes and buildings that have seen several hundreds of years of generations must carry some echoes of it's past ....

As for the ability to see a ghost, I cannot think of any one common denominator. Our witnesses including those that display psychic gifts, come from all sorts of backgrounds, cultures, socio-economic circumstances, education, ages etc.

Some people might have one experience their entire lives, others many and still others none ... it is still very much a mystery.

Cheers!

As an after thought to MsDemmie .. whenever I have gone into a situation with my hopes really high nothing ever happens (most of the time nothing does occur). It is always when I least expect it or worse (after hours of nothing) I say something like "there is nothing here" and then all "heck" breaks loose. "They" have a weird sense of humour I sometimes think .. ;)

I find more ghosts in closet and head than in any of the places described.

I did a little more hunting around. Old historic buildings, manor houses, palaces, hotels and inns all fit the bill.

not so much our hospitals as yet.

Thanks MsDemmie,

I do have some hospital reports from London, I'll try to post some up for you shortly although Matthew is the more knowledgeable regarding the UK.

That is why I love this blog. Our websites are Canada based, but here we can write about international stuff :)

Cheers!

Is it possible that those locations are the most active because they are where people passed (as opposed to where their remains are).

Hi MC,

Yes that could be a possibility, however in our hospital reports most of the apparitions are noted to be former staff or long term patients, so it still sort of lends itself to the concept that "they" are haunting where they spent much time alive.

There are some haunted execution sites though .. so anything is possible.

Cheers!

Thanks for your comment artfrmberwyn, but for the most part these are not scary experiences. The scary stuff belongs to Hollywood and fictional stories.

Cheers!

Hi Guys,

Newbie poster here. I live in BC and have been an addictions counsellor for over five years. Can it be possible for certain people to attract unwelcome ghostly attention? I worked nights at a residence for women who want to kick the heroin habit. We had our fair share of women having horrific dreams and nightmares, lots of sleepwalking. However we also had own resident ghost, Alicia, who used to move the hanging plants, and play little jokes on the staff. She was gentle and only curious. I described her to one of our long term staff who identified her as Alicia, a client who had passed on due to AIDS a few years ago. Alicia I could deal with, but some humanindividuals seem to have a black amorphous cloud following them, especially the First Nation girls. I knew if I put them in a certain room, especially alone, there would be hell to pay, bad dreams, items missing, scary bumps and yells during the night. Most of the time I was able not to book that room for anyone, but sometimes I had no choice, it was the scary room or the street. Some people were incredibly affected by the room, others were not. I could not talk of this to my co workers, though they were also aware of the problem and had some phenomena on their shifts. We wondered privately about it, do spirits attach themselves to those in psychogical pain? I think yes. Easy prey, and no one will even check out their story.
What do you think?
